Workforce Health and Well-Being

Population Health Management

Our consultants are knowledgeable business partners working with companies to help build cultures that foster employee health. Depending on the size and needs of the business, our consultants are available — at no additional cost — to strategize with employer groups. Working effectively together to develop thoughtful tactics tied to an organization’s goals and strategy can have a cascading effect of positive, healthy results for employees and businesses.

For more information on our broad-based approach to tackling the issues affecting the health of an employer’s workforce — an approach that can help build a culture of well-being at work — visit the Kaiser Permanente Better Way site.

Health professionals are on call to give patients the help they need outside the exam room. From advice in the middle of the night to monitoring chronic conditions, it's a service that can help control utilization and costs.

Our care management programs are designed to take care of the whole person, not just a specific ailment or condition. Whether it's a symptom in the middle of the night or a chronic condition that requires ongoing monitoring, we have professionals on call to help.

Consulting Nurse Service

Whether your client's Kaiser Permanente members have an illness, injury, or just want medical advice, the Consulting Nurse helpline is there 24/7. A physician is on-site, too.

Complex Case Management

Kaiser Permanente registered nurses provide phone-based, short-term, focused interventions for employees or covered family members who have chronic or acute conditions. Doctors can recommend this service or members can call case management directly.

Complex Case Management

Our cross-functional care team ensures that patients are transitioned from one care setting to another efficiently and with compassion. This approach puts patient safety and quality of care first, and helps avoid unnecessary readmissions or Emergency Room visits.

Utilization Review

Using scientific medical evidence, our utilization review team checks to see that employees are receiving appropriate care in the most appropriate setting. This helps manage utilization of services and reduce unnecessary costs. The team follows standards set by national quality committees and state and federal laws—and they review the process and decisions annually.

Through strategic conversations, you can help customers realize that the true cost of health care is more than premiums. It includes the health-related costs a company can avoid and the opportunities they gain from having the right health care provider.

With these cost savings in mind, it is clear how important it is to have a strategic provider focusing on the total health of your employee population. This cost-savings strategy is inclusive of medical health plan benefits and an occupational medicine provider that understands the importance of health as a business strategy, not just premiums paid for health care benefits and workers’ compensation premiums.

Therefore, we invite you to help your customers see the health of their employee population as an investment versus a cost to be managed.

Specialists in injury care

Not a member? Not a problem. At Kaiser Permanente On-the-Jobᴿ, we accept both KP members and non-members. Our occupational medical clinics have specially trained providers and board-certified physicians, which belong to Washington State Labor & Industries Medical Provider Network, and work with injured workers that are injured on the job or have an occupational health disease that is related to their job or place of work.

With 7 specialty clinics conveniently located along the I-5 corridor from Everett to Olympia, plus Port Orchard and Spokane, our board-certified occupational medicine doctors and specially trained providers understand the complexity involved with a workers’ compensation claim. As a result, they can help injured workers’ return to work faster while helping employers to reduce workers’ compensation premiums costs. In addition to our full range of services, our program also offers case management to keep employers, payors, and injured workers in the communication loop.

Our focus on quality care and thorough communication helps employees get started quickly and helps existing, valued employees get back to work safely, quickly, and cost effectively. We do our best so employees and businesses can be at their best.

In addition to injury care, Kaiser Permanente On-the-Job offers medical screenings, commercial driver medical exams, employment exams, and drug and alcohol testing. In short, whatever you need to make sure your employees are cleared to work.

Consulting

Each client is unique, and their Kaiser Permanente account manager can assess their business needs and the overall health of their workforce to determine whether they’d benefit from working with one of our experienced workforce health consultants. Our consultants can help to identify the unique solutions that fit each business. This partnership might include identifying appropriate wellness initiative, creating actions plans, or building a larger well-being program.

Mental health is part of total health, and supporting emotional well-being is more important now than ever. Visit our Mental Health & Wellness page to find tools and resources for your clients and their employees.

Reporting

Data is key to understanding employees’ health actions, attitudes, and behaviors. It can provide the insight needed to help an employer’s workforce thrive. We want clients to have the data and analysis to assess current employee health and engagement so together we can design an effective action plan aimed at better health outcomes, higher productivity, and lower costs. Consulting services vary by group size.

  • Reporting on member engagement with existing health tools and resources
  • Claims data reporting
  • Reporting on the use of preventive services
  • Customized reporting (some offered for a fee)

Services

We can work with you and your clients to determine the services that will have the greatest impact for an employer group. And we can connect your clients to services that give them the information and support they need to take charge of employees’ health on their own.
