COVID-19 home antigen tests help stop the spread of COVID-19

COVID-19 self-tests are an important tool for slowing the spread of the virus. These self-tests are an easy, no-cost way to get quick results — usually within 30 minutes.

When to use a COVID-19 self-test:

  • You have symptoms.
  • You think you’ve been exposed to COVID-19.
  • You plan to gather indoors with those who may be at risk, including unvaccinated children, seniors, and those who are immunocompromised.

How to get a COVID-19 self-test:

  • Order up to 8 free self-tests per U.S. household without shipping fees at covidtests.gov.
  • Complete an e-visit on kp.org/wa or the Kaiser Permanente Washington mobile app to order a self-test for pickup or delivery to your home.
  • Pick up a self-test from a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy, as supply allows.
  • Pick up a self-test from a participating retail pharmacy such as Walmart or Bartell Drugs. Check out at the pharmacy counter, and show your photo ID and Kaiser Permanente ID card. Availability of tests may vary.

How to get reimbursed for a COVID-19 self-test:

If you pay for a COVID-19 self-test authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), you can submit a claim for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be limited to $12 per test, including shipping and sales tax.

What to do if you receive a positive result

If you receive a positive result from a COVID-19 self-test, complete an e-visit or call our 24/7 advice line at 1‑800‑297‑6877 right away to report it. You'll receive guidance on treatment, isolation, and quarantine.

If you have questions or concerns about your positive result or symptoms, visit kp.org/getcare or use the Kaiser Permanente Washington mobile app to access care.

Update: Shelf life extended for iHealth COVID-19 self-tests

The FDA has extended the shelf life of the iHealth brand of COVID-19 self-tests. Visit the iHealth website and enter the test's lot number to see the new expiration date.

Visit kp.org/coronavirus for local updates. For recorded updates 24/7, you can also call our KP COVID InfoLine (TTY 711) at 1‑877‑808‑9233 (available in English and Spanish).

Continue to stay current with vaccinations and boosters

COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters provide the best protection against severe illness from COVID-19 — along with wearing a mask in public settings, keeping a distance from others, washing hands often, and staying home when sick.
