COVID-19: CDC recommends updated booster for children 5 and older

With holiday gatherings just around the corner, it’s important to protect yourself and your loved ones by getting a flu shot and an updated COVID-19 booster. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the updated COVID-19 booster vaccine for children 5 and up. Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an updated booster vaccine at least 2 months after the 2‑dose primary series or previous booster for:

  • Pfizer: People 5 and older
  • Moderna: People 6 and older

There are currently no authorized boosters for children younger than 5.

Members can schedule an appointment for their flu shot and updated booster at all Kaiser Permanente facilities and can often get both vaccinations during the same visit.

To learn how to get the updated booster, visit kp.org/covidvaccine. You can also call the Kaiser Permanente COVID InfoLine at 877-808-9233 (TTY 711) (available in English and Spanish) 24/7 for regular recorded updates.
