Medicare: Looking ahead to 2023

With the annual enrollment period (AEP) and a challenging but rewarding year behind us, our team thanks you for your support. We appreciate you entrusting your clients’ health care to Kaiser Permanente and look forward to your continued partnership in 2023. Let’s get started by reviewing some helpful reminders:

Making plan changes

The Medicare Advantage open enrollment period (MA OEP) runs January 1 through March 31, 2023. This enrollment period allows those already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan to make another change if they missed their opportunity to change during AEP — or if they’re not happy with the plan they’ve chosen. To learn about additional special enrollment periods, please visit medicare.gov.

Adding dental

All 2023 individual Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage (HMO) plans have an embedded preventive dental care benefit through Delta Dental of Washington. If your client is interested in comprehensive dental coverage — such as coverage for crowns, oral surgery, or implants — they can contact Kaiser Permanente Member Services through March 31, 2023, to add the optional supplemental benefit (OSB) Delta Dental PPO Plus PremierTM (PDF) plan for an additional $52 monthly premium. Newly enrolled clients can add the OSB dental plan within 30 days of their plan effective date anytime in the year.

For more information, please see the dental section of our Producer Forum Medicare FAQ.

Alternative medicine benefits and providers

All 2023 individual Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage plans have routine acupuncture and routine chiropractic benefits. To search for available in-network acupuncturists and chiropractors, members should use the Core network in the online provider search instead of the Medicare Advantage HMO network. This also applies to Optimal plan members who want to search for naturopaths — a benefit that's included in addition to their routine acupuncture and chiropractic benefits. Note: Massage therapy is not a covered benefit under our individual Medicare Advantage plans unless it is ordered as a part of a physical therapy program in accordance with Medicare guidelines.

Member ID card

New members who applied during AEP will receive their ID cards within 10 days of their January 1 coverage effective date. New members who submit their enrollment after AEP using a SEP will receive ID cards within 10 days of their enrollment request being processed. Renewing members will not receive new ID cards. Reminder: Members use their Kaiser Permanente ID card to receive covered services from Delta Dental of Washington participating providers. Separate dental ID cards are not provided. New members can contact the New Member Welcome Team at 206-630-0029 or 888-844-4607 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for help in transitioning care, prescriptions, finding a doctor, and more.
