Funding approved: Kaiser Permanente Everett Medical Center expansion

When Kaiser Permanente entered the Washington market, we set out to create deep confidence in our organization and to secure its future. In continuing to work toward that goal, we’re excited to share that we’ve received the funding approvals needed from Kaiser Permanente’s national and regional boards of directors to move forward on expanding and redeveloping our Everett Medical Center specialty hub. This important work will enable us to continue delivering on our mission to provide affordable, high-quality, integrated care and coverage while improving the health of the community and its unique needs.

Previously announced as part of our $1 billion expansion in the region, the investment in the Everett Medical Center will provide our members in the North Sound (and beyond) access to high-quality care from highly-trained providers, state-of-the-art facilities, and an excellent care experience.

The expanded facility will include primary and specialty care, surgical services, an ambulatory surgery center, 24/7 urgent care, imaging, lab, and pharmacy services — all in one convenient location. Construction on the expansion will begin in February 2022, with a goal of opening for patient care in late 2024. The current building will be operational throughout the construction. Updated details regarding project milestones and full facility opening will be released throughout the planning process. A great deal of planning and work lies ahead, but today marks a big step in delivering on our commitment to the North Sound.

Snohomish County is one of the fastest growing counties in Washington state. It has a broad distribution of employers in manufacturing, retail, trade, and construction, and a growing population over 60. Located with prominent visibility from I-5, this premier location is easily accessible by public transportation will allow us to meet our members’ needs closer to home.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to investing in high-quality, person-centered care in our core service area in the next several years, including a new facility in Kent and expansion of our specialty hubs in Seattle and Tacoma. Together with an expanded Everett specialty hub, these opportunities will help us to better deliver on the Kaiser Permanente promise of medical excellence, equitable care, access, and an exceptional care experience for our members, patients, and their families.
